             Plate Tectonics to Earth expansion - a paradigm shift in progress

 
The Earth sciences today are at a cross-roads.   With very few exceptions, scientists the world over - real scientists that is, ...hard-nosed, realistic, no-nonsense, willing-to-work, real scientists guided by empiricism and scepticism, are being called to account in finally having to recognise something that has been staring them in the face all along, and which they have been studiously ignoring, which is that:-

Yes, it's happening all over again - the Earth Sciences are leading the way -  and it's true, ..the Earth is not flat and stationary and something to fall off at the centre of the universe,  but it is round, rotates, and orbits the sun, ...and what's more (and this is the really quirky bit for Earth scientists):-

And the even more quirky bit is that this seemingly self-evident fact is ignored by Earth scientists.

Ignored?  Really?  That's some claim.  I'd better run it past you again since you probably missed it.  I repeat, scientists are blatantly ignoring the fact that has been looking at them ever since they got up this morning, and for goodness only knows how long before that -  which is that the Earth is round and rotating, ...and that this fact is indelibly written in the Earth's crust.

Got it?  Round.  Rotating.  Inscribed in the crust.  And ignored.

Can it really be true, ...that a worldful of scientists can really be this blind over something that to you and me (i.e., a round rotating Earth) is plainly writ?   Surely it's not possible.  ....

And here we stop for our first lesson in paradigm shift, ...which is denial by consensus that there is one.  For in the future when the change is complete Flat Earthers will deny that there was ever a time when they thought otherwise, and that they ever ignored and denied the evidence for the change.  They will say, "Of course, we knew all along that the Earth was round, and rotating," ...and, "Only a fool would think it flat."  Such is the imperative in paradigm change for retrospect to conceal the tectonic shifts in thinking that derive from the simplest of observations.

But it's true, on both counts.  It's more than true (if we can stretch a point).   From the first-order oblateness of the Earth's non-spherical shape to the smallest transform fault on the ocean floor, spin-inscription and the implications that derive therefrom are given no significance and no credence as a modus operandum for the evolution of the Earth's crust -  by half a century (at least) of Earth scientists.   Instead and until now consensus gurus have been promoting a model called Plate Tectonics.  Driven by a mantle-sized convection engine, and grinding away like indigestion in the interior of the Earth due to dissipation of heat, Plate Tectonics sees fragments of the Earth's crust as being driven around on the crest of a roiling boil, pulling apart here and colliding there by the vagaries of convective 'flatulence'.   Moreover there is in plate Tectonics nothing whatsoever intrinsic to the Earth's roundness that may be contributing to this effervescent state of affairs; 'convection' requires only a temperature difference to drive it.  It could be happening just as well in an Earth the shape of a flat-bottomed pan, as in a sphere. In other words the fact that the Earth is spherical means nothing to the essential elements of Plate Tectonics.  That it is spinning means even less.

With huge appeal for its kitchen-friendly, on-the-stove porridge-pot analogy, and 'tick-the-box' multiple-choice educational success, this combination of Chinese-juggling, plate-spinning, and hat-magic has been touted for decades as the Jewel in the Crown of the Earth Sciences.   Now it is being assailed by the svelte charm and celestial radiance of Mother Earth as she orbits the heavens.   Which will be shown to have more appeal? The Dame, ...the quintessence of elegant sophistication?  .or the lumberings of our porridge-bespattered lazyplate Tectonic Daisy, cavorting in a fugh of indigestive flatulence?

It remains to be seen, for this is the choice that confronts constellations of gurus in the Earth sciences.  Does 'spin-symmetry' really mean 'spin-induced'?  How shall we tell?  How shall we know if there is a connection between crustal crinkle and orbital spin?  The test lies in the decades to come, when Flat Earthers get real, get tough, and get up and face the light streaming in their window from yet another day of terrestrial revolution and lunch-induced flatulence, and with some help from the evidence presented on this site, work it out for themselves - that the oblate shape of the Earth and the fossil expression of this in mountain belts and related inscriptions on the ocean floors are, in fact, no less than spin-chic.  In other words global tectonics is at last and by all sensible criteria being linked to the Earth's spin and its place in the celestial heavens, and despite best political efforts to hype up the 'plate' model as the best thing since sliced bread, this self-contained, convection-driven model for mountain building and crustal dynamics known as Plate Tectonics is being revealed for what it is - no more than a loud-mouthed, boisterous, obfuscating romp through the dining car of the gravy train of free consensus lunch that is long past its use-by - and is being relegated to the refuse bin of history.
 

So, boys and girls, it's over.   What will seal the casting vote?  We had better be careful, for if our celestial spinning beauty wins (as she is sure to do given the constipated competition) then the inescapable, indisputable, immutable, incontrovertible fact follows:-

And not just by some small amount, but to the extent of doubling its radius since the Mesozoic. And more before.   This has stunning implications, not just in itself for reconfiguring the entirety of the Earth sciences, but for its implications in physics: there is no known means within the consensus of physics whereby enlargement to this extent can be happening.  By proposing Earth Expansion, the Earth sciences are once again pointing the way for the physical sciences to follow.   The Earth is not flat, it is round.  It is not at the centre of the universe, it orbits the Sun.  And now the realisation that the Earth is not, and never has been, static, ...it is getting bigger.

This 'book' presents a framework only, a guide to the reasons why I think it is so.   Good reading, ..and to all those 'gurus' who must now change hats and vie for top spots, all bets are off.  By your complacency in the face of change, by your belief that consensus majority ensures power, prestige and influence, and in your obstinate refusal to even acknowledge that there are issues to address, you have abrogated your responsibility as scientists and forfeited public credibility.  You deserve the imminent reversal of fortune that looms on your horizon.
